New build will not post

Go to solution Solved by somer4ndo,

Have you checked that all cables are properly connected? Including the CPU cable at the top of the motherboard. It's the only thing that I can think of with no troubleshooting utilities(I'm guessing you don't have a PC speaker to see if there's a beep code)

Hello!

PC Specs (New parts mixed with some old ones for a new build. Old parts marked with an asterisk):

  • Motherboard: AMD B550 Mini-ITX AORUS Motherboard
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU: EVGA 1080FTW* (4-5 years of use, however was working last time I used it 6 months ago)
  • RAM: Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz DDR4
  • PSU: EVGA 650W* (1 month of use)

When I try to power on the PC, nothing get displayed (tried plugging into motherboard and GPU with HDMI and DP cables). The case fans will turn on. The GPU will light up, however the fans will start and stop over and over again. The LED for power button on the case turns on. However, if I try to force shut down the PC by holding down the power, the machine will not shut down. The only way I can turn the PC off is by unplugging/flicking the PSU switch.

I've tried reseating all parts (CPU, GPU, RAM) and cables coming from the PSU. I've tried resetting CMOS with the screwdriver to the pins, however I haven't tried doing it with taking out the battery since it's in an awkward spot. I read through the stickied thread and still achieved no success except for the first bullet point (I'm having trouble finding out the BIOS version that comes stock on the motherboard, but I will continue to look and see if there is a compatibility issue)

Currently running the machine with everything unplugged except the CPU + cooler, one stick of ram, and the PSU with nothing posting. I have tried using a different PSU and achieved the exact same result.

Is there a troubleshooting tip I'm missing or is my Motherboard DOA? I really hope not cause building on these mATX boards is a pain and I essentially rebuilt the thing twice lol, but if it is so be it.

No bent pins (checked when I reseated)

You have troubleshooting LEDs on the mainboard. They tell u whats wrong mostly. The meaning of the LEDs are in the manuel.

I tried looking for these LED's but I couldn't see any, and the manual has no mention of them (went through every single page). However, I'll try opening the other side of the case and looking on the underneath of the motherboard maybe?

As an aside, I saw that I can use "Q-Flash" to update the BIOS on this motherboard. Would attempting to update the bios solve anything in this scenario?

Maybe Bios update can help. Its the last thing i would do tho. Its so easy to break everything. But i think its hard to brick ur mainboard since it can update via usb not needing to boot.

We have a winner haha. CPU cable reseat fixed it. I thought I reseated this cable but when I took a good look with a flashlight it was not in all the way.

Thank you!
