Recently my dad noticed that our computer (the Msi codex XE) was having a problem, it was interesting because it would happen a decent amount of time while booting basically it would have a fully gray screen almost every time during the booting, sometimes it would just not boot up after the gray screen but sometimes it would, also the cursor was visible on the screen when it was gray and we could open the task manager and other stuff, My dad thinks its the GPU (Nvidia RTX 1070) because when we boot it without the GPU its normal.

Boot without the gpu?  Like using the iGPU instead?  Checking drivers and stuff might be a thing.  Just because a gpu is erroring it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a hardware issue

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

We tried booting without the GPU and it worked with no problems what so ever.

Well having that gpu in the system is causing the errors anyway. Doesn’t automatically mean the GPU itself is what is erroring out.  The easy solution for this one would normally be to RMA the GPU simply to make sure it is known good.  RMAs have been massively problematic recently though.  The company often merely sends back a check for what the lowest msrp of the device was and then resells the thing for twice as much even if the GPU actually is bad, leaving the user with no GPU at all and often less than they even paid.  If you do RMA there are apparently ways to arrange it that are safer than simply sending the card in.  I’m not over familiar with them.
