RTX3070 bottleneck?

Hello! 

 

I bought a new 3070 to upgrade from my old 1060, and I felt that something is holding the card back, but I'm not exactly sure what  
In BFV on ultra settings, I'm getting no more than 120 FPS, and on Apex no more than 150 (on ultra as well). From what i saw in some reviews, i probably should be getting more than that. 

 

My system is:

i5 8600k 

16 GB DDR4 2400 Mhz (2x8)

600 Watts PSU (CX 600)

Asus 3070 KO OC

500GB NVMe SSD (SN 750)

AOC Hero 24 144Hz monitor

 

I was thinking that maybe the RAM or the PSU (lower wattage than the recomended one) are the bottlenecks, but i'm not sure.

PSU dont cause performance issues, it just shuts your PC down usually

i suggest running MSI afterburner in the background while you play the games, then alt tab out and look at the following:

- is GPU usage consistently pinned at above 95%? if yes then your GPU is being fully utilised, if not then something else is limiting it, example:

 

- if your GPU usage isnt pinned at near 100%, look at individual CPU thread usage, is there any particular thread(s) that's consistently above 85% and often hitting 90s or even 100%? that could be your limiting factor

 

16GB ram should be sufficient for most games, unless you're running something else in the background (or modded minecraft uggh)

I have tested it for some hours this afternoon, and it looks like it's the CPU indeed  

Usage stays on the roof all the time, on all cores, almost never went below 97%.

The gpu, on the other hand, stays at 70-75%, with a few 90+ peaks. 

 

I was really hoping it would not be the CPU, looks like i might need an upgrade in the near future XD haha
