Hey Guys and gals.... 

 

I'm John new to this whole site thingy.. I'm just wondering something... I have a  Odense2-S motherboard with 2x8 = 16 gb ddr4 ram running a Intel I5-6400 Processor..

Chipset is 100 Series/c230 

I'm looking to replace the CPU .....   my current cpu has a socket =  LGA 1151  ... I/O Bus = DMI 3.0 .....

 

I'm wondering.... Intel has a i7-9700k that i'm looking to buy...  It has the same socket as the previous cpu and same I/O bus as the I5-6400.....

 

Will it work if i purchase and replace said CPU???

No, you are unfortunately locked to 6xxx or 7xxx chips with that motherboard.

The mobo is limited to 6xxx series CPUs https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05236921

 

Bit of research shows that its either/or chipset, and the chipset limits you there. IF there would be BIOS update to add compatibility, then using 7xxx series CPU would be possible, but since its HP prebuild, thats very doubtful.
