I recently bought a ryzen 7 3700x and g.skill 32gb ram kit used. I am currently running a sff pc with:

r5 2400g

16gb Corsair 3000mhz

Asrock b450i fatality itx/ac

Vega 64

Evga 650gm

random ssds

The pc has been mostly stable for it's lifetime, but when I installed the 3700x it refuses to post, spin fans, or turn on my graphics card.

I made sure my cables were plugged in, I swapped out the ram with 3 separate kits and tried using one stick at a time, updated the bios to 3.40 and 3.50. I cleared CMOS and reinstalled my 2400g, and it magically posts first try. I made sure the 3700x was functional in a friend's pc, and it posted immediately, and he is using a gigabyte b450 pro wifi board in the latest current bios.

I've built and rebuilt my system tens of times in the past few days trying different configs. Nothing seems to make a dent. Randomly, maybe one in ten attempts, the cpu fan will turn on, and continue to spin. But my graphics card will stay inactive, for 5+ min so i turn it off and try again.

If you have any suggestions, let me hear them. If another thread seems to fix this issue, please steer me in that direction. Thanks!

Have you updated the BIOS on your B450 motherboard?

If not, do so, then power down your PC and install the 3700X.

Yes, my motherboard's 3.30 bios added support for third gen. I updated it to 3.40 before trying the processor, and then went to 3.50 when nothing seemed to help. I can keep going up, but rn I'm out of thermal paste so I have to wait until I get some.

Ok, so it's not BIOS.

Can you try clearing your CMOS after installing the 3700X? It sounds weird, but so are computers.

PLEASE STOP [Killing] ME I WILL GIVE Y OU ANOTHER DEAL.

Yes, I cleared it with both the old and new processor installed.

What does "mostly" stable mean?
In your original post, you said "the system has been mostly stable".

It had some ram compatibility issues in the past, but I was also never using tested ram from the QVL so they were kinda my fault.
