Flashing the BIOS does pose a risk, if it fails for any reason, it could leave your device inoperable. BIOS updates do however tend to address various hardware issues. I have personally never had one fail, but it definitely can happen. You could always save it as a last resort if you continue to have issues.

Hey! My PC crashed today and on the BSOD it said Kernel Panic. Later I checked the logs and it said system failure due to a bug check. Also it created a memory dump. What do you think might have cause it? https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BpyfevDohiTGZobhqJuPIIlLUig3THmW?usp=sharing

Can you specify what error said in the BSOD?

Kernel Panic is not correct. That's a very similar way to say BSOD.

This looks like a Kernel Security Check Failure (bug check 0x00000139). I'm on a mac at the moment so i can't take a look at your dump file, but there's a couple things it could be. Most likely I would think this is memory starting to go, driver issues or Windows corruption. Though it could be a bunch of things. I might start by running memtest86 and a malware scan just in case.

Ok thanks for the info! Just to answer a few things I don't have WSL ,and I don't remember what exactly it said in the BSOD. I will run memtest but I really hope it's not memory because this laptop is new and it shouldn't have memory problems already ,this will really suck. I might have driver issues with my GPU but I am working on it right now.

OK I am about to run memtest right now, I ran chkdsk and it said no errors on the filesystem, does that mean I don't have to run it with the /f .r stuff to fix errors since Windows said no problems on the filesystem or should I just in case run it with the /f /r to fix errors again?

If it's a pretty new laptop, I would think it's unlikely that either of these are to blame (in theory). I would be leaning more into drivers at the moment. I would run an sfc just in case (in cmd as admin type sfc /scannow) and make sure your drivers are up to date.

Well I did sfc, chkdsk and memtest86 4 passes everything passed with no errors. I reinstalled my graphics driver because I had issues with my GPU so I hope no more issues now. By the way I am going to share a few graphs for the GPU here so you can tell me what you make of it. You can see my GPU going to 100% then dropping then going back to 100% which results in a framedrop This is while I play Squadrons. Also the temps are around 80 C at max GPU usage. Also there is a result form a latency monitor. I was told here to undervolt my CPU using Intel XTU and then  overclock my GPU using MSI Afterburner but Intel XTU says unsupported platform and doesn't wanna install ,and should I really overclock my GPU? What do you think I should do base on these files?

According to the DMP provided. The DirectX Kernel Driver crashed due to a buffer overflow and hit a security exception.

If had to take a guess, there is something wrong with your Grpahics Card Driver. I would make sure your system is up to date, DDU your current driver and install the latest stable driver for your card.

Hey,it´s been a while but how do you DDU a driver? Do you just go to device manager and uninstall(because I have done that and it's the same thing) or is there another way to erase it more? Sorry for the late reply but I have been playing some Minecraft and some lighter games recently and didn't have any problems with lag and the GPU but if I play Squadrons which I want to at some point I will have to fix this.

Follow this Guide. https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-tutorial

Essentially your going to download the latest stable drivers for your card, down the DDU Tool, Run the exe which will extract it, Disconnect from the Internet,  boot into Safe Mode, run the DDU Tool, Remove anything related to your graphics card from within the tool, Reboot into normal Windows without a internet connection, install your drivers, then reboot and reconnect to the internet.

Ok thanks! Hopefully that fixes the problem. If it doesn´t probably my graphics card isn´t powerful enough for AAA demanding games like Squadrons

It has nothing to do with performance. If your problem isn't solved, even trying with an older driver (just in the case it is a newly introduced bug), then your GPU might be faulty (or Windows is corrupted and makes us miss conclude the diagnosis. You can try reinstalling the OS to confirm that isn't the case)

Hey I am just about to DDU and reinstall my driver and I just checked the Lenovo website there are quite a few drivers there to get, there is bios updates GPU drivers and many others. Should I download them? Or should I use the drivers from Microsoft and Nvidia(for the GPU)? Because my laptop is Lenovo so technically I should get my drivers from Lenovo right? But the GPU drives there are called Nvidia GFE.something... driver and Nvidia VGA.something driver which doesn't sound very promising(VGA,wtf man?) so should I trust them or avoid them and get my drivers form Microsoft or the original site(like Nvidia or Realtek for the audio)?...

the nvidia driver i would grab from nvidias site. the intel one i would grab from lenovo, as oems can modify these to include additional drivers and services. you shouldnt need the other drivers. if there is a bios update however, you may try to upgrade yours before doing the DDU.

Should I update the BIOS though? I mean I already did the DDU and reinstalled the drivers but should I update the BIOS? Isn't it dangerous?

Some motherboards do have a way to recover a failed BIOS update. But sadly, this feature tends to be only on premium boards with some brands only.

ALL boards have a recovery procedure.

Whether or not the recovery works on a bricked bios is a different story.
