I looked over past questions but didn't really see a solution, so I'll post my specs and needs and see what the folks have to say.

Current gear:

I currently have my personal laptop (Acer Predator) hooked up to the Targus docking station. Due to either a technical limitation with the laptop, the docking station, or Blender; I have to have my main monitor hooked directly to my laptop in order for Blender to use the GPU for rendering and real-time display. The secondary monitor is wired to the docking station along with my wired mouse and keyboard which is bluetooth. I also have an external webcam and wireless adapter that aren't critical to what I'd like, but it'd be nice if they worked seamlessly as well.

What I'd like:

  • To easily switch between my work laptop (a Macbook Pro) and my personal laptop (listed above)
  • When one system (or both) are asleep, I'd like to be able to switch to a sleeping device and wake it via keyboard or mouse without having to open the laptop first to reestablish the connection to the keyboard/mouse.
  • I'd like to have both my monitors wired to the docking station, and for the laptop's GPU's to still be usable by programs like Blender.
  • Since Mac's are so dongle-centric, whatever solution is proposed would have to keep the "one cable to rule them all" thing in mind.

I'd like to hear about all possible solutions. Cost is a concern of course, but at this stage I just want to gather as much info about what's available, what other folks have had success with, possible issues to look out for, etc.

Thanks for takin' the time.
