Non-audiophile headset?

jaypro

I'm looking to get my friend a headset replacement, but what he wants in a headset is so different than what I normally look for that I am not sure where to start.

What he wants:

Easily accessible mic mute switch.  (No inline)

Super comfortable, can wear for hours.

What he doesn't care about:
Sound balance/accuracy/.  Bass-heavy? whatever, doesn't matter.

He is looking to use them as functional headset, for voice chatting (work @home), but needs a quick mute access because he has loud kids.  Needs long cable because he'll be walking around.

He also doesn't want wireless.

I may suggest a regular headset + a mod mic. Personally it's hard to give a headset that comfy :/

Have you tried wearing any in a local electronic appliances store? @jaypro

Price range? under $100?

He should just use a push-to-talk or push-to-mute ass opposed to an actual button the headset.

Vengeance 1100? It is designed for calling and VOIP. The boom mic also does not pick up any environment sound.

It's not always an option for him because he might be turned around in his chair or away from his keyboard.

Although, as other people have pointed out, wireless seems like the ideal perfect solution for him, I'll look into why he doesn't want wireless.

I suppose. I'd recommend a g930. It's one I've personally used and like it quite a bit.

needs more bears and battlestar galactica.

Wireless is good, the only reason people don't recommend wireless very often is there's a tiny amount of lag and some audio quality can be lost. For someone with no interest in using them for music I guess it's not an issue, and they're actually convenient.

What's your budget? The only mute function like that I can think of would be automatic mute when you put up the boom mic.

I don't know of any other than the Sennheiser PC360 off the top of my head but I'm sure there are cheaper ones. Perhaps something by Steelseries. The peripherals subforum might be able to help you more.

Okay, he doesn't want wireless because too expensive.

Budget is <$100. Preferably as low as possible.

Another thing he mentioned is he doesn't want any closed/noise canceling, because he still needs to hear his kids.

The problem is muting by raising the boom mic is a premium feature so the headsets with them are expensive. The only headsets I can find with them are Sennheiser PC360 (wired) and Corsair vengeance 2100 (wireless). The Sennheiser has much better build quality and sound quality. The Corsairs might be closed I'm not sure. The Senns are open.

Edit: The Sennheiser PC230 has that feature but it's a minimal headset for VOIP. I'm not sure if it's worth the $47 it costs. I say just splurge for the PC360.

They might seem overpriced but for his specific use could the siberia Elite work?

PC360 would be way better than the Siberia elite at half the price.

Edit: jk not half the price since the elites dropped in price but still like $40 less.
