Playing with cpu clock

My laptop boosts to a little over 4gz and it throttles bad.  I used Throttlestop and turned off turbo and it hovers at 2.2ghz.  For the most part it runs great.  However what I don't understand is why does it still throttle to lower than 2.2ghz?  Specially when the temperatures are fine.  What's causing this?  I don't know why it would further throttle down when the temperatures are still acceptable.  Is there a way to turn off throttling and set it to have a ceiling of 2ghz and to never dip below it?

most of the time, on laptops, they will go to a low power state if not actively in use. my 3700U routinely has cores sitting at 1.2 GHz and bouncing between 2.6GHz and 4.2GHz when in use. right now mine is hovering between 1.5GHz and 1.9GHz since it isnt really doing anything intensive.

Post some pictures of how you have ThrottleStop setup. Turn on the Log File option and go play a game for at least 15 minutes. When finished testing, exit the game and then exit ThrottleStop. The log file will be in your ThrottleStop / Logs folder. Attach a log file to your next post or copy and paste the data to http://www.pastebin.com  

 

Most laptop throttling is caused by power limits that are set too low. If you do not have a Dell laptop, a lot of this power limit throttling can be avoided. Post some more details including your laptop model.
