Hello everyone! I apologize for making my first post on here one that's asking for help, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

with all of the USB issues right now with B550/X570 boards, I was wondering if purchasing a USB add in card (PCI-e)  would help get around the USB drop outs.  would anyone be able to help me out with this one?

Thanks!

Hola, friendo.

I have not tried it myself, but I have a certain feeling it would simply be money wasted at this point, as the underlying issues and potential solutions for each build and motherboard seem to be quite varied. I also experienced USB dropouts on an X570 chipset mobo and personally tried to rectify the issue by wasting money on a USB hub with external charging, that did not solve the issue one bit.  A friend of mine has reported that he is using the same X570 chipset motherboard I had with an RTX 3090 and he was experiencing crashes and BSOD's whenever he opened blender or ran games. Some people were able to fix the issues by disabling C-State in BIOS, some were able to solve it by manually setting PCI-E to Gen3. I ended up sending my motherboard back and getting another one that luckily did not have these issues, but has a slew of other problems, such as BSOD's on Windows 10 Pro and forced me to switch to Windows 10 Enterprise, as well as issues with XMP.

Point is, with how different the problems for the chipsets are and AMD withholding the primary cause for the issue I don't think there is a single person out there that could guarantee to you that it will solve your problem. I would wholeheartedly suggest that you hold out until early April for the latest BIOS updates that AMD has stated will fix these issues. If that doesn't solve it, then go from there.

Hope you get your issues fixed soon, bud.

Ya, I've already done the pci Gen fix, disabled global p-state, nothing lol

My thinking is that since an add in card would have its own controller and not necessarily interface with the one on the board itself, it - might - work.

I found one for around $15 with good reviews. So if it doesn't work I'll at least have extra usb3 😂

Could be worth a try. I blew 50+ USD on an external 3.0 USB Hub with charging and a type c > usb 3.1 adapter for camera and it didn't fix a damn thing in my case. Tried everything from bios updates to c-states, pci-e gen workarounds, system reinstalls, the full works. Not a damn thing worked for me.

hey! Just wanted to let you know, along with anyone else with this issue, that it seems like adding in a PCI-e USB card worked for me! I've been recording in OBS ( to simulate a stream load) for nearly 10 mins now, and the CamLink hasn't froze up once!! So I guess since the USB card has it's own controller it bypasses the need for the motherboard's onboard controller.

so excuse me while i say WOO HOO!!! 😁😁😁
