Which CPU should I get between those two?

Go to solution Solved by BiotechBen,

i'd say for that, if you can find a 2600/2600x on the used market, for around 100 euros, then do that, or if the 3600 is available for not much more than the 3100, get the best of both worlds. but for games plus discord and chrome, the extra 2 cores you'll likely notice a difference with.

Hello there. I've come to ask a question about 2 CPU's, because whenever I google it there are answers like "don't buy that, buy the other one" and others say "no, you need the other one." So here's the question.

My build is almost finished and I just need to buy a CPU, but I can't decide whenever I should go for a Ryzen 3 3100 ( 3300x could be an option too ) or Ryzen 5 2600. I think the r3 will be enough for me, but many ppl and google say, that I'll need at least 6 cores to have a good gaming experience and that after 1 year or so 6 cores will be the minimum. I may also be able to get R5 3600, because here in Germany the difference between 2nd gen and 3rd is 25 bucks or so.

My specs:
- Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX
- CPU:
- GPU: 1050 2gb ( Will be enough for now, but must upgrade please suggest me something )
- Ram: Hyperx Predator 16gb 2x8 3200MHz
- Storage: Samsung evo 970 plus 500gb
- PSU: Corsair CV550 | 550W

Thanks in advance!

the 3100 has microarchitecture improvements over the 2600, so each core is better, but if you are doing multicore workloads, the 2600 will likely be more favorable. I have a 2600x matched with an RX 480 8GB and I'm playing ultra 1080p with 55+ framerates very stably. I've been thinking about going up to a 3600 on the used market, but frankly I'm not really doing much that would benefit too much from the upgrade. my 2600x with a very gentle overclock never skips a beat.

Well, I'm planning to use it for gaming mostly of the time of course, but not the newest games. For instance I want to play League of Legends, Genshin Impact, GTA 5 ( FIVEm) Dying Light, Rise of the tomb rider, Shadow of the tomb rider ( It will be rough on these w my gpu ) and such topics. I also want it to be capable of playing on the upcomming game called "Blue Protocol", aside from that I want to be able to use in the background Discord, sometimes open Browser ( Chrome ) and other background programs when I need them.
