S21+ Battery Drain

Not sure if this is the correct subreddit (please forgive me this is my first time posting to reddit).

I have an Samsung s21+ 5G Snapdragon 888. I have had the phone for about a week and I am not at all impressed with the battery coming from and s10+ that was 2 years old.

Yesterday I was at 91% all the way down to 4% and I got about 4 hours 40 minutes screen on time. Personally I don't think this i very good, most people saying they are getting close to 7 or 8 hours.

These are the settings I have on:
- 120 Hz
- Adaptive Power Saving
- Adaptive Battery
- Auto Brightness
- Wifi, 5G , and Bluetooth on

Tried calling samsung tech support and they just told me to factory reset phone. I am willing to do anything else before doing that.

Below is a screenshot of yesterdays battery usage.

Sorry copied this directly from reddit as apparently I'm not allowed to post on the samsung subreddit.

High-res screen, 120 Hz, almost 5 hours of Spotify playing in the background... I'd say that's not bad.

What specifically you're doing during the 4:41 of screen on time will have a huge impact on the final battery drain. Perhaps the others you've read about are doing tasks that are less intensive on the battery.

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

I guess I should explain that I wasnt actually listening to spotify for 5 hours. Maybe that's the source of my problem...

I'd see if turning off adaptive brightness helps. Just keep it lower, and you should save some mAH.

Also check what apps might be affecting you. Uninstall any apps you don't use, keeps them from using resources. Honestly a factory reset isn't the end of the world.

If you have 5G where you live, then that's going to drain the battery a lot. Try switching it so that it only connects to 4G towers.

You can never directly compare your battery life results to someone else's, there are waaay too many variables.

That said, is almost 5 hours of screen on time really an issue for you? That's almost half of your waking day spent on your device.

It's not a high res screen though, and honestly 120hz doesn't have that much of an impact on battery life. Not as much as people seem to think.

I'd definitely check out Spotify, if it's running in the background for that long.

Thought it was 1440p, but seems I was incorrect on that.

You used Spotify for 5 hours and it didnt count as screen on time. those 20% could of easily taken the phone to around almost 6 hours. And if thats your ddaily use of Spotify I would reccomend you upgrade to premium and downlaod your song to the devise and play them local instade of streaming them.  20 hours of background battery drain for the massing app also doesnt sound right (thats thhe samsung one right?) try switching to Hangout, that should save you at list 5-6%. WhatsApp will save you even more

except for that I never liked adaptive battery and adaptive power saving (im an S10 user).

Deleting unneeded app can save a couple of %. turning off location when your not using it can also save couple of %.

Samsung has what they call deep sleep which is app that you dont touch for a long time have even less ability to do stuff in the background.
