Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 5600x for a pretty huge discount in my country and I have some doubts on how to pair it with some budget motherboard and memories.

My intention is to buy a B450 motherboard (ASRock B450M PRO4-F, couldnt find non F), as I'm not willing to pay extra por PCIe 4, and the specifications say it is compatible with DDR4 3200+ (OC).

I'm new to overclocking and im curious, if I buy a 3000mhz memory (Corsair Vengeance LPX (4x4GB)) would I theoretically be able to overclock those memories to 3600mhz, or it would be a moot point as the motherboard accepts only 3200?

Also, is it possible to know which die are the memories before buying them?

Is there any advantage to buying a B550 instead besides the PCIe 4?

From what I understand ryzen 5 accepts quad channel, would that show fps improvemtns only when using a b550 or is it okay to go for the b450?

You could possibly overclock it that much, but going from 3000 to 3600 is a large leap, you might only get 3200 because a really high memory overclock is not guaranteed.

The ryzen 5 5600X only accepts dual channel, but it can run with 4 dimms (2 dimms per channel)

To get quad channel, you would need an HEDT CPU like threadripper.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

What people have figured out by now, it's actually better to buy higher rated ram like 3600 then downclock it to something like 3200 and tighten the timings,  which in the end is the most cost effective thing to do cause memory with tight timings is expensive.

Also,  Corsair RAM isn't that great,  trident Z or something is better,  jfyi.

I am new to AM4 in general, so take it for what you will.. but the majority of problems that I see with AM4 on the forums comes from Corsair ram. My experience with their ram is pretty spotty too, even on the Intel side.

You mean when overcloking or in general by receiving BSODs?

Yeah I imagined it was too much of a wishfull thinking. It was more of a curiosity.

I dont know if it is quad channel or not but gamer nexus released a video showing there are improvements to 4 sticks instead of 2

Well, I meant overclocking, but probably it's both,  basically it does what it says on the box, but beyond that is spotty.

Memory dimms have "ranks", some are single rank and some are dual rank (you would have to go looking if a certain memory kit is single or dual rank, because it's almost never advertised on the store page)

When you use 4 dimms, even if they are single rank, they can be used in dual rank mode (because you have double the chips). Without being too specific on all the details, single rank dimms access memory a little differently from dual rank, so dual rank can be faster in certain situations. Using 4 dimms can be good, but if you find the spec sheet of some ram that you want to buy, and you find that it's dual rank, you can go with that instead.

Also the benefits from single rank to dual rank aren't super large, buying 2 faster sticks instead of 4 slower sticks should give you better performance.
