M.2 Sata raid 0 on sata 150.

Would there be any benefits to running to modem sata SSD in raid 0 in the system with first gen Sata 150? I'm putting back together my old retro gaming PC and was going to swap the old raptors for SSDs. I'm betting one modem SSD would max out sata 150.

SSDs have been maxing out SATA-3 (600) for years now, so your bet is a safe one.

SATA SSDs almost always max out SATA 6Gb never mind anything older.

 

Of course being a retro PC it may bottleneck elsewhere such as the CPU or if the SATA is connected to PCI rather than PCIe, depending on how old it is.

In all instances I've used RAID 0, both with SSD and HDD... the benefit is there.  It has varied from a 25% speed improvement for my 860 EVO's to a 50%+ for regular HDD's years ago.

 

For the system you're talking about, I wouldn't go RAID.  SSD is more than enough.  You usually only go RAID 0 when you want to eek out a bit more performance out of what you can reasonably acquire.  Doing it with what you have isn't really needed.

Thanks, that was what I thought.

One last question, what modern SSD would work best with a OS that lacks Trim? The system is running 98 and wile there is a trim driver for MS-Dos, I rather not have to deal with that since it has to be manually ran.

Never mind. Roudluf loew made a trim patch for 98.
