LOL!

I'm giving it to my son (old laptop).

His current gaming rig is a 4690K and a GTX 970.  He goes to his grandparents 1/2 of the week home schooling and he's tired of the piece of trash Chromebook the school gives him.

3060 laptop will be no lower than $1,800.  Way too much.  $1,200 is my limit.

I want a 17" high refresh rate screen and i7 cpu.

I've seen some 3060 laptops with i5s that sell for $1,000 - $1,200 but they have 3060 Max-Q.

I'll never buy Max-Q again.  You're better off getting a non Max-Q lower tier gpu.

you definitely can get 3060 laptop around 1000-1500, however there aren't much option to choose from

AMD would be fine.  I will not accept any Max Q gpu.  I learned my lesson.

RTX 2070 is probably my minimum
