Wrong CPU Temperature

Go to solution Solved by Skiiwee29,

The pump is likely dead on your 120mm AIO that you have on an inferno of a chip 9900k.

First of, I am sorry if I misspelled anything or left something important out, English isn't my first Language but i tried my best. I am a Computer Science Student from Germany in my 2 semester and really interested in PC's so I think I can follow what the responses say. I am sorry if this is a easy fix and I haven't seen it in the Internet.

I have a problem with my PC, my current PC is about 2.5 years old. I never had any issues with it till now.

My specs are

CPU: Intel  i9-9900k

CPU-Cooler: An AIO With 1 Fan i don't know exactly which it is

GPU: 2080ti

Motherboard: MSI MPG z390 GAMING EDGE AC (MS-7B17)

RAM: 48gb

OS: Windows 10 Pro Build 19041

Ok now to the problem.

Yesterday i played some video games and everything worked fine. Than my pc started to lag and stutter. After that it crashed. I don't remember what happened then but  it displayed some kind of message.

Ok so yesterday i tried to fix it but I didn't get far. I discovered that the CPU temperature according to the tool Core Temp and my BIOS is at 100°C (212°F). It displayed 100°C as temperature even after my PC was turned off for 2h.

I tried to fix it with a BIOS update but i think that it has nothing to do with the BIOS and the problem could be with the CPU.

If i start my PC and look in the BIOS it says it is at just 40°C but it rises really fast to 100°C. I did check the CPU if it really was that hot but the CPU-Fans are cold and working fine.

I can use my PC  but the CPU is throttling itself to only 0.5 GHz which is really slow and i can't do anything really at the PC. Currently I am doing a Antivirus scan of the whole system, but i think this wont help me and it is really slow because of the throttled down CPU.

the air should be warm. The job of the CPU cooler is to move heat off of the CPU. @Skiiwee29said the pump of the cooler is possibly dead, and you can test this by touching the tubes to see if they are warm or not. Warm water should be moving to the radiator.

also, you have to quote us, or we won't see your responses.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Sorry I forgot to add the CPU-Cooler.

And also I think it isn't the CPU Fan because it works fine, and the Air is cold / the AIO sits tight on the CPU since 2 years and the problem occurred in a split second, the day bevor i had no problems.

An AIO with one fan cannot cool a 9900k, not even close. Good enough for a i3 but that's about it. You want something better or use a stock cooler if you have nothing else. Also make sure that the pump is running at full speed all the time.

Okay sorry I am new to the Forum,  yeah it was a stupid comment with the Air is Cold, I know it should be warm if cooling. But i meant with that that I think the AIO is working fine and the Fan actually is cooling.

There's your answer above. Skiiwee29 hit it on the head.

The pump died and nothing unusual for cheap AIO coolers.

I just held my hand on top of the AIO to see if its warm and it is lukewarm. Would you recommend to replace the AIO ?
