Overclocking ram limit

I have an LPX 3000Mhz ram kit with 2x8gb, i managed to overclock it to 3600Mhz, should I increase it, I further tried 4000Mhz and it failed, I know that different modules and chips are different, but what is the general guidelines behind my ram kit?

It depends on silicon, which on Corsair memory depends what revision of the kit you got. There should be a number on the sticker that says Rev. 5.32 or similar.
