Blender Video Editor issues

BigNavi31

Hi there,

I am trying to edit videos using blender’s video editor, however I have encountered some issues whilst using it.

My issue is that when I try and scrub through footage using the scrubber, it’s very laggy, and jumpy. I am only trying to edit 720p footage, and playback is fine.

My system specs:

OS - win 10 64bit

CPU - ryzen 3 3200g

CPU cooler - AMD stock cooler

GPU - zotac gtx 1660 super twin fan (I am using the gpu as my graphics output, not the igpu)

Memory - 1x8GB 3000mhz hyperX ddr4

Mobo - Asrock B450 pro 4-f

storage - crucial mx500 500GB ssd

Case - cit f3

The version of Blender I am using is 2.91.2

I am fairly new to video editing, so I am not very knowledgeable about things i can tweak in Blender’s settings that could make things smoother.

I am not sure as to whether it’s a hardware or software issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Thank you

First thing, why are you using blender? It can work as a video editor, but its not commonly used as one, and there are normally better options unless your using the animation features aswell.

What codec is the footage? Id transcode the footage into a codec thats easier to edit.

Hi there,

Thanks for responding 🙂

I use Blender because I like how it has many different uses. 🙂

I believe that the codec i use is ffmpeg.

Do you recommend using a different codec?

Thank you 🙂

ffmpeg is a programs that allows for video encoding and decdoing. What codec are you using?

Id give some other video editing programs a shot, they generally work much better.

Id try something like resolve if you want a better free video editor..
