I have an Alienware alphas that I've had laying around and collecting dust. I loved the little thing but its been struggling. so it got replaced with a full size powerhouse. so here's my thought or at least i hope. i want to eventually rebuild it. new ssd.cpu hard drive the works. i however don't know what the mother board can handle have an external graphic amp that plugs into it and have a 3060 (lucky me). i want to know 1 what CPU i can possibly fit in it. (preferably an i7-7700k) beyond that i want to know what would be best to stuff in it. any help would be awesome, want to keep the shell is the goal. it does sit on a fan so cooling isn't hard.

What CPU does it have now?

The 7th gen i7 models are usually pretty awful value, doesn't the case have a standard layout? Perhaps a new motherboard would be nice.

External graphics amp? Not sure what you mean.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

I see what you are wanting to do but sadly it's not possible. It doesn't support egpu (the wifi card pcie adapter thing is not something you should do and it is not fast enough for a 3060 anyway that and you need to be lucky that it would even work). The 7700k is a terrible value cpu too so also not a good idea.

I would honestly just sell it and get a proper system. It's not worth the money and it's simply had it's time. People love them as small media boxes but that is about what it is still useful for.

Ok the r2 is you didn't specify that. Still the upgrades to it will be more than a new and well better system. It's also not small the moment that egpu is there then it's the size of a small micro atx system.
