Hey! I've been dealing with wireless internet and I just couldn't take it anymore. I can't download Valorant, and knowing that Fortnite doesn't have SEA servers (currently in the Philippines btw) I will get insane lag, I want to game in my room, problem being, I have no way whatsoever. The router is on the second floor while my room is on the 3rd. I am currently on a COMFAST wireless extender which doesn't do a good job of giving me at least 40% of my actual internet speed. My plan is 50mbps download 15mbps upload, while on this extender solution I get 13mbps download 10 upload. I cannot even load up sites, or it loads in basic html. Which sucks, even if I weren't to game but to just do school works, I wouldn't even be able to access sites that I might need for a specific subject.

Now that we know what my setup currently is, I wanna know how I can get ethernet full speed to my room. However, there is a problem. Since I live in the Philippines, ethernet and coax plates aren't really that common. In fact, I don't know a single person who has a coax or ethernet plate/wiring in their home. I heard of powerline adapters. But based on my research, they don't necessarily give the full speed that you pay for. Powerline adapters cost more than a Wi-Fi extender, standing at $40/pair while a wireless extender costs $20. MoCa would be tricky in our home, the antenna of the Internet is on the front of the house while my room is on the other end. And the house is like a rectangle, with my antenna and my room being on the opposite shorter sides. And I would have to drill some sort of hole in order to get the Coax to pass through.

Here are the options I currently have, but if anyone has a better solution, please do reply them below as I need ethernet as soon as possible.

  • Powerline adapters
  • A better wireless extender
  • A long range router as a repeater/booster/extender.

I have no clue if I will benefit from any of these, but if you have experience eve with one of the solutions, reply them below as it will be a huge help for my final decision.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. And if you are gonna reply, thank you in advance!

Well wifi extenders always halve your speed and as we can see here the current one doesn't work well if at all so a new one will probably also not do much.

A wired access point can help if you can get it closer to your room otherwise it's also pointless.

A better router can help but again depends on how hard it is for the wireless internet to get to your room.

Powerline can be good but it really depends on the quality of your wiring in the house and how it's wired.

A cable is simply the best option always and well if you are up for it do it. It's a project yes but it's the best option of all.

A good centrally mounted access point will work wonders in most houses. The problem is you need to get an ethernet cable to it. Doesnt have to be wall plates etc, just a cable with a jack on the end will do.

Any sort of wireless extender is always going to be flawed. Powerline is horrible from an engineering standpoint, but often does work.
