Power button doing nothing

Just built my second pc ever with a b550 rog strix f and when I put my psu switch on, my motherboard lights up but when I press my power button nothing happens and the power button usually lights up but now nothing happens. I tried jump starting the motherboard with a screw driver on the power pins and still nothing. The rgb on my motherboard works but that’s about it. No fan, no lights nothing. I didn’t try to do a CMOS reset yet. Could that help ? The ram and the psu works fine they are brand new and i tested them. Can you guys help me

reseat the EPS power for the CPU.

Thats the 8 pin CPU power located usually in the top left of your motherboard.

Have you made sure that the power-button connector is correctly plugged into the motherboard? It might've come loose if you didn't push it in enough.

what irritates me is the mobo lighting up when they switch the psu on... that shouldn't happen imo... can that be the EPS not being seated properly? 

 

Or maybe the front USB / power buttons not connected properly?

 well he did say he tried shorting the pins, so I assume he has the front panel hooked up correctly and knows which pins to short.

yeah but I meant why is the motherboard lighting up when he uses the PSU power button, im not sure that's normal... I've never seen it, usually absolutely nothing should happen if you switch the PSU on (that's what the front power button is for obviously)

I think it only needs the 24 pin to light up the motherboard. Don't believe you need the EPS 12v CPU power connected. 

 

Example, you can clearly see the EPS 12v CPU power disconnected here, but everything is still fully powered on in this video from Bitwit.
