Hello,

A few months ago I bought the i3 10100 with a gigabyte b460 motherboard in the hopes that the 11th gen will support b460 (so i can have an easy upgrade path). Now that the "wonderful" Intel ruined that smooth upgrade path for me (+ the ruined performance of RAMs forced at max 2666 mhz) I want to sell those (for 220 USD) and get either the R5 3500X with a B550 motherboard or the I5 9600K with a Z390 motherboard. Even though I have an RX 5500XT 8GB I dont really mind PCIE 3 or 4 cause the difference arent important and I got no NVME SSD (my sata SSD is good enough) .
So the prices are: 330 USD for the AMD set and 300 for the Intel set.
I wanna OC CPU and RAM (for more performance) that's why those options.
I already have an Deepcool Gammaxx 200T which will do a good enough job cooling those
Should I do this though ?
And if no do you have other options or ideas?

Hello there,

The Gammaxx 200T is likely not going to provide the cooling that you would need for either of those CPUs. For the 9600K it would be right at the limit with PL1 level of power consumption. When the PL2 stock boost kicks in, it will more than likely overheat. For the 3500x, it has more room for cooling, but it will be pretty close to the limit as well.

Do you have problems with the 10100? Is there something you want to do that it's not capable of? If not, I wouldn't upgrade. And if you do upgrade to either, the Deepcool 200T isn't going to give you a lot of overhead for overclocking. It's a 120mm fan ghetto-rigged onto a 92mm heatsink.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Not really much , just looking on somehing to do mostly and because I have a 3200mhz ram its a shame to only use it at 2666 and losing more performance + it is fun to overclock
