Help With UPS

Hello, 

i was wondering if you guys recommend an ups that can support my build?

 

the energy goes out and my current UPS simply shuts down.

I too require a good ups with good switching speeds which can handle my pc

My part-list is as follows-

-ryzen 9 3900x

-gigabyte rtx 2070 super one click oc

-Asus prime x570 pro/csm motherboard

-1000w bronze rated antec psu

-32gb gskill neo 3200mhz ram

-coolermaster ml360r aio

-asus wifi card

On paper, I have a 1600va, 960w ups(a Microtek Line Interactive UPS LEGEND 1600U) but as soon as I have a power cut, it dies. It lasts literally less than a second.

I just grabbed a APC Backup 850W, on the basis that while not enough to run the system at load (3900x and a 3090), it's plenty for it under low to moderate load and just accepted that as that's likely where I'll need it. It also had more sockets, which was actually more important as it let me keep my NAS and all the associated components plugged in.

 

To be honest though the actual benefit for me is in cleaning up the power and surge protection, I'm not that worried about data loss from power cuts rather than surges causing damage. 

 

One benefit I wasn't expecting at all and not sure I believe, is I actually got a performance bump and my overclocks became a lot more stable. Not sure if it's because cleaner power means my PSU is generating less heat and so everything is a bit cooler or more consistent voltages, but there is a genuine difference in performance.

Unless you have a more expensive UPS, it's most likely just passing the AC power through to your PC, so any line noise or dirty power is still getting through. Then again, the surge protection and such in the actual unit might be better, which could help.

 

My 3900XT/Vega 64 system is plugged into a 900W/1500VA CyberPower unit. I get around 55 minutes of runtime at idle, and 10 under load.

 

My old Haswell system gets 55 minutes of runtime idle, and 15 minutes under load (bitcoin mining).

 

I also have all of my networking equipment plugged into a separate UPS. 2-3 days of uptime. Sounds kind of worthless, however, we have a VOIP landline, and when the power went out in Sept during the huge fires, that being up and running enabled my family to get vital messages from our local sheriff regarding evacuation orders. IMO, it's vital...
