Data Priority

Is there a way, on a phone that is not rooted, to force said phone to prioritize cellular data over WiFi, or better yet, to not use wifi for internet connections at all. I have unlimited 4g on my phone and tablet, but a 100gb hard bucket of data on my cellular hotspot. But I often have to switch to wifi to use local network storage. That means I am constantly having to switch wifi on and off, and I often forget to, this draining my hotspot bucket unnecessarily. If I could force the phone and tablet, both currently on Android 10, to not use wifi for internet, that would save me some headache at the end of my billing cycle when the hotspot bucket has run dry.

 

Right now, my hotspot is connected to a travel router that has a portable HDD and an SD card plugged in, so the router is what I connect to. It serves the internet connection to everything connected to it. If I happen to need the hotspot data for my tablet or phone, I would just connect to the hotspot and not through the travel router.

 

Any ideas?

On my S10e with Android 11 there is an option to force apps to use mobile data, even when connected to WiFi, under "Settings > Connections > Data usage". Perhaps a similar setting exists on Android 10.
