USB mic low-pitched noise.

kecstama

Hi!

I just bought a new USB mic. It's a Superlux E205U MK2.

First I tried it with my laptop, 0 noise, great sound ect. ect, but when I plug it into my desktop it has a loud low pitched noise which gets louder when I'm using my mouse.

It's not my mouse's fault, because when I completely unplug every peripheral, it still has the humm, but a bit quieter.

I'm not sure what to do. Is it a groundloop? If yes, how can I eliminate that?

I've tried different USB plugs, front/back even my monitor's USB outs.

Update: The noise "changes" when running FurMark.

It's not louder, it's like I can hear the thing ramp  and down.

Probably a noisey psu, I've had "coil whine" come through my audio before.  In my case it was a replacement psu (still top notch) and the noise went away after a few month's.  It was directly tied to my gpu activity but typically it's a high pitched noise.

If you want an immediate solution I would try some way of getting distance from your onboard audio, maybe something like a usb sound card would work (*maybe).  I'm honestly not smart enough to know what it is but my assumption is it's electrical noise going back through the psu.  For me it was my USB connection and it was removed when I went with a galvanic solution IE: no physical connection to my computer.  After a few month's I went back to a physical usb connection and the noise was gone.  I later replaced the psu with my rma psu and it made no noise even being brand new.

Here is a video of Josh Valour having issues with a noisey PC though he is more or less asking for advice than giving a solution.

I have an external soundcard, but that's not noisy at all. It's just the USB mic.

My PSU is kinda on the budget side, It's a Zalman GS500? idk, something like that.

I made a cable which has separate Data and Power In-s. Data side into the PC, Power side into a powerbank and the noise is 90% gone. It's finally usable.

Not the perfect solution, but it's working.

Nice man, good to know that was the problem.  Also expensive psu's can still do it.  In a few month's I'd try going all connected to the pc and see if it's gone and at me with the result's because I'm curious to know.
