I7 2600 vs I5 3570K

Thoir

Hi my friend dropped off 2 systems he had laying around and wanted to use the best from both to make the best gaming system he can from the parts. one of the systems is an old Gateway with an i7 2600 non K CPU which is a 4 core/ 4 thread CPU that can be adjusted to go up to 4.1-4.2 Ghz all core. The other is a custom build system with an i5 3570K CPU that can be comfortably OC to 4.3ish. The Motherboard from the Custom system is an Asus P8Z77-V PRO with 16gb ddr3 1600 Mhz and a Cooler master Hyper 212 Evo with 2 fans. His video card will be a GTX 1070 8gb I am wondering if it would be better to have the i7 2600 at 4.1-4.2 Ghz for the HT in todays games vs the i5 3570K OC to 4.3 Ghz. I have looked around online and most are talking about these two CPU's awhile ago or comparing the i7 2600k vs the i5 3570k. Any insight would be most helpful thank you.

I'd take the i7-2600 over the i5-3570K. More games will appreciate the hyperthreading today over the raw clocks of the 3570K.

Unless you anticipate that your friend will be playing a lot of, say, CS:GO or League of Legends, I'd use the 2600.

2600 has hyperthreading (8 threads). The 3570k doesn't. IPC between sandy bridge and ivy bridge isn't huge.

Take the 2600. It will help.

Thanks for the input 🙂 yeah my bad I put 4 but it's 8 with HT. I had a gut feeling that the i7 2600 would be better just wanted to confirm it. Thanks again for all your help.
