By usable are you wanting to install modern programs on it or just use it for online tasks? If you can't get a Linux distribution running well on it then look into all of the modern software that's been made available for Mac OS X. The G5 will still be terribly slow, but TenFourFox should work alright.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Which exact iMac is it - the 1.8 GHz 17", the 2 GHz 17", or the 2 GHz 20"?

You know there were many more models than that, right?

I've only heard of those three, and that's all that came up when I looked around.

Just looked more, and realized that those were the ALS models... silly me.

Rephrase:
Is it a G5, a G5 ALS, or a G5 iSight?

PLEASE STOP [Killing] ME I WILL GIVE Y OU ANOTHER DEAL.

There were at least 8 standard models between 2004 and 2005.

I would just like to use it for simple online tasks, but I would also just like to try to put Linux on it as a fun project kind of thing because I got this G5 for $30. Maybe upgrade the ram to the max of 2gb because it only costs $15. Maybe throw in a ssd too. The only problem with Linux is that I can't find a download page that is still active. All of the links I find lead to deactivated websites. I'll try the browser though, thanks.

Are you trying to find PowerPC versions of Linux distributions through the G5 itself?
