Plex on Lubuntu

Forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere.

 

I am trying to run Plex on an old desktop ive booted into lubuntu. I am trying to add files from an external HDD. When i add the path through plex it doesn't detect the files. I know this is because Plex doesnt have permission to access the files. Can anyone walk me through running plex on lubuntu, i have no linux experience?
