He could probably save some money on the case choice and still get a decent one.  As for the motherboard while I like Gigabyte that one chosen doesn't rate very well (60/100 rating basically on the net all over) considering the reviews I am seeing for it. How about spend a bit more and get a 990X or 990FX motherboard from Gigabyte?  They rate much better.  Still though there are other motherboard options .... looking now at the links you gave and all and now realize I am too tired to look further but really if you could find a better motherboard then you are all set.

Good job on switching the board.  He will definitely be happy. Why not play it safe eh and pay a little more to get a well rated board eh? Also with the board you changed to he gets SLI support and other features and again this rates an 80/100 across the net. 80/100 better than 60/100 (http://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-GA-990FXA-UD3-990FX-SATA-Motherboard/dp/B0055QYKQO) I spent $30 more or so on a 990FX board for my son when I did his last build cuz I like having the option of SLI if we went Nvidia later on and I liked that the board rated better and so far it has paid off as we ended up getting rid of his AMD card for an Nvidia card and also the motherboard has run flawlessly.

Any chance your friend is going to maybe want to overclock and run another card in there or run a much better card in there in the future?  For me personally while that is wonderful that it is a fully modular psu at a decent price the wattage is quite low. Better psu?

well he could get €1100 (€350 extra) but get a way better gaming rig so...

All these recommendations are nice and this is a cheap one but please don't let your friend get an MSI motherboard.  Go with Asus or Gigabyte mid range boards and he will be guaranteed to be happy.

MSI motherboards are as good if not better than gigabyte motherboards,I personally would not hesitate to recommend or buy one for myself in a build.

EDIT:@DeViLzzz have you heard of the MSI GD65 Gaming? It was recommended by most reviewers as one of the best all around motherboards.

No way you are going to convince me that choosing MSI over Asus or Gigabyte is a smart move.  Also there is a reason MSI has to sell for less at times with their boards and it wouldn't be that they want to make less money than their competitors. The reason is they can't sell certain boards at certain prices like Asus and Gigabyte can cuz those companies are more trusted at this point with this type of product.

Nobody in their right mind goes looking for an MSI motherboard when shopping for motherboards.

Avexir is the company that made MSI's mpower ram,so with that in mind I feel they're decently reputable.

I'd rather have Asus, Gigabyte and ASRock before even considering MSI.

You have some really skewed opinions.

ASRock is always thought of as one of the worse brands, most people think of it as only slightly better than Biostar.Personally I feel they're only slightly below msi and gigabyte, but still.

I can gaurentee you that MSI vs ASRock a large majority of people would pick MSI.

MSI vs Gigabyte it could go either way,but I see MSI winning a few more people over than Gigabyte.

I'd rather have Asus, Gigabyte and ASRock before even considering MSI for a motherboard and I think quite a few people would agree with that.

AsRock?! Low end ASRock boards are rated as one of the worst ones! Only because MSI is not as famous as ASUS or Gigabyte, it doesn't mean their products aren't as good as the others. Just look at MSI's Lightning, Gaming, Hawk, Lighting series! I really don't get your point. It's like saying that PNY and PALIT aren't good manufacturers because they're not famous.

Did you know that Asus wanted to buy it back because they were making some really good boards? (Remember hearing this on WAN Show) Also it is much better than Biostar. Seriously please give me a break comparing ASRock to Biostar. LOL Are you now going to go and say ECS boards are better too?

Don't drag brands in that I did not mention and no I don't trust MSI to make a better board than Asus, Gigabyte or ASRock for good reason.

As for looking at MSI yes look at the company that did not listen to Nvidia and was ***** slapped for it. Sorry but not a company to be trusted.
