CURRENT SETUP:

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H

CPU - i5-2500k (ewwwwww)

GPU - 1060 6gb (only decent thing i have on my setup, and want to keep)

RAM - 8 gb ddr3

Power Supply - dont really know which one i have 😕

What a friend of mine has recommended to me:

Motherboard - ATX MSI b450 GAMING PLUS MAX

CPU - AMD RYZEN 5 3600

RAM - HYPERX FURY DDR4 RGB 16GB (2x8) DDR4-3200MHZ CL16

Power Supply - SEASONIC FOCUS GOLD GX 650W FULL MODULAR

BOX - ATX NOX HUMMER MC PRO ARGB WHITE

TOTAL = 550€ which is pretty nice considering my budget

I would like to know your thoughts about what he recommended to me and also your opinions of what i should go for, thank you for your time! :DDD

A Ryzen 5 2600 would be just as decent an option, given the mobo choice, and assuming no plans to upgrade GPU. Might save you some cash, depending on your preferred vendor. Also consider your storage choice(s). NVME or SATA? 500GB or 1TB? etc.

I'd definitely move away from your existing setup if you want to maximise your GPU potential.

Take your pick. That's what I do. 😄

I'd recommend Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or ASRock as the starting point. If going for a Ryzen 3xxx, I'd recommend a B550 over a B450, but it's probably not a massive issue to use either, as long as the B450 has a BIOS update to handle the 3xxx (hence the 2600 thoughts for B450).

Not sure if LTT does one, but THG has a list of motherboards on a Google spreadsheet. It's handy for narrowing down your options. e.g. you might favour top-end sound chips over standard ones (i.e. you have a good ear, and the kit to notice the difference - most people won't care).

I'd start with the 4 brands, and the two chipsets mentioned (there's also X470 & X570, but they tend to be premium price for not a whole lot, short of you needing a specific feature). Then see what's available to you by vendor. There's your short-list. Then compare features, colour, size (ATX, m-ATX, ITX) etc. Also consider warranty, RGB (or not).

Eventually you'll narrow it down to 2-3 boards, and then you can see reviews on each. 🙂
