AHCI mode

Hey guys!

Today i finally learned how to swtich my ssd and hdd to ahci mode after i always had bluescreens. But now, after i did that, my Hdd seems to whine very loud! Is that normal? I have an WD Caviar Green 1TB and my ssd is an ocz solid3 (gonna change this one soon). I have no idea what to do but its so annoying!

My second question is, if TRIM is now automatically enabled on my ssd or if i have to do it manually (how does that work)

I have BSOD's when I switch from IDE to AHCI. It's a driver issue in Windows I have to reinstall windows to fix. It's only knocked off 20 MBps on my SSD performance, but no deal.

I've never heard of enabling AHCI that audibly affects the HDD. I'd run SMART on the HDD to be sure that it's running OK.

yeah i had this too but then i read something about changing stuff in the regestry and now it works. where can i enable Smart? is it also in the bios?

Enabling AHCI while OS installed causes bad errors and blue screens.

SMART is already enabled and you can read those information via software

All you have to do is go and change a registry entry before enabling ahci mode. Heres a quick guide.

Also TRIM should be enabled by default but to check you can open a command prompt and type "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify". If it returns a 0 trim is enabled.

Yes, i did the enabling with Pyromaniaccs guide so thats fine. I heard trim is just available for ahci so now, trim is on by activating ahci? What software should i take to read out smart? And whats with my annoying HDD? :( But thanks so far! :]

btw: i think its the hdd. Could it also come from the PSU? mine is a AX750 but i think that would have been constantly and not just after i enabled ahci o.O
