I am upgrading from...

CPU: Core I5-4460

MOBO: ASUS B85G-R2.0

RAM: 4x4 16GB

Storage: Crucial 500GB

PSU: Cooler Master 500WT

 

The PcPartPicker list is what I plan on buying. I would like yo hear your opinion(s) and if you have a better list. I plan to buy for college or until my dad complains that the computer is too slow...again.

It's a good list. Although, you could swap out your b550 for a b450 and save some if you're not looking for upgrading your processor down the road on the same motherboard, cause I'm pretty sure 6th gen ryzen won't be compatible with a b450, otherwise leave b550 in.

Another cost saving measure would be to use an SN550 instead of a Samsung. It's not as fast as the Samsung for sequential workloads, but for daily use, you wouldn't notice a difference.

I'd also suggest going for a GTX 1660, 1660 super, or a 1660 ti (depending on your budget, if you're cutting costs using b450 and an sn550), instead of the radeon card. They're all better in terms of performance.

Attention is what makes life meaningful.

The one other thing I would keep an eye out for is the Vengeance LPX kit, some people including myself have been having some strange behaviour from that kit. Maybe a g.skill kit?

I don't have any personal experience, but g.skill seems fine I guess? Plenty of youtubers using it out there. Or maybe hyperx or crucial, whatever is cheapest I guess.

 

Also, thanks for pointing it out, I will keep an eye out for this too, when I build my own pc.

I agree they're not, I was saying in a more general fashion. If the OP can hold off buying for some time, or use a used card from his previous build (if he has one) in the meantime, then it's fine. Or if he has to buy now, well, 5500xt it is.

i would recomend goig g.skill in ram because of my experienced great performance.

Yes it's an insane time, that card should be $150. 1660 for $500 that's just bonkers. You should get a 3070 for that money.

My suggestion to OP is to buy a cheap used RX570 / 580 4GB just to wait till the price normalize.

The performance is not that different from 5500, probably even better.

I WOULD GO 5700XT BECAUSE IT CAN HANDLE 4K
