(I hope this is the right forum for this)

Hello,

I'm thinking of buiding a render server for myself and I have a lot of questions. First, will I be able to get away with a High-end GPU paired with a lower end CPU? And then, How does one go about this? 3. How would this work? 4. Will this work with my hackintosh if I put in an nVIDIA card into the server (I assume yes)? 5. Can I also use this as a Jellyfin (open-source alternative to plex/emby) server? As for use case, I'll probably just render videos from premiere, or after effects, and mostly using it to upscale vieos using Topaz labb's video enhance AI. Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.

(Side note: I'm trying to do this with 1000 USD budget)

Why do you want to build a completely new PC if you only want to sue gpu rendering? Can't you just put a new gpu in your existing pc and be done with it?

I kinda want to have an nvidia GPU but, it's running macOS. Also my parents won't let me open up any pc because I could "destroy it", So a new pc would be an okay work around to that. Also, I would want to use it as a Jellyfin server in its downtime.

Premiere and after effects are noramally pretty cpu heavy, so a big cpu will help much more.

Id just use the money to upgrade your main pc, you will get a much faster single pc.

Same reasons as the above, hmmmmm, I could just use my current pc for premiere and after effects, It's been working fine, I just thought I would well offlaod it, but the upscaling AI is the only workload that isn't working well on my current pc

What mac do you have now?

Can you get a egpu if you want more gpu power? The amd gpus will work fine in osx.

What specs?

Why not just put a faster cpu or gpu in the hackintosh? That will probalby be a better value upgrade.

An Intel core i7 6700 (vPro non-k)

Integrated graphics

8 gigs of DDR3 memory

(BAsically whatever else that comes in a dell optiplex 7040 prebuilt)
As for adding a new graphics card inside it:

Don't tell your parents and just do it?

Do you need a mac? Id probably just sell that and get faster pc, you can easily do that for a 1000

The whole situation is pretty complicated. As for building a new pc, I dunno, as I said, I would also like to use it as home theatre pc, so well yea

can't you just replace your desktop with part of the budget? That seems like a better spend of meony.

But you can just remote into a system and run the program in there.

Your parents won't let you open a Hackintosh but they let you build a completely new system? What?

I think your situation could simply be solved by one good PC instead of two worse ones.
