So, I've got this issue where, in very specific instances, I get a kind of shimmering, sparkly effect on certain surfaces.

It seems especially apparent on reflective surfaces - so stuff like shiny floor, mirrors, stuff that have a silver-metallic look, but also water, and more so when my character is moving.

The only way I can describe it is like there's this sparkling haze with tiny pixels/dots shimmering.

It isn't quite as obvious when my character is stationary, but it's there.

I also have some atrocious anti-aliasing and distortion, in particular foliage which can almost look like a hologram (if you see what I mean?).

Now, I must say that everything else, like character models, the U.I, weapons etc...are all fine.

It is just this very specific issue, and that's why I think maybe I've adjusted something in the Nvidia control panel that has caused this problem.

I'm very new to pc gaming and the huge amount of tinkering you can do with settings...both in game and within other applications, is a learning process and it's likely I've gone backwards two steps after initially taking (what I perceived) as one step forward.

In other words, there's a strong possibility I'm making things worse.

I considered restoring everything to default, and that maybe my monitor is partly to blame.

It's a 1440/144 Samsung curved screen...pretty entry level for the resolution and hertz requirements I had.

I'm using an RTX 2060, i5 10400f, 16 gb RAM, so my system is far from cutting edge...but it's not terrible either, is it?

There are some subtle differences when I cycle through my monitors pre-sets...you know, like Cinema, T.V, Gaming etc...

But, it doesn't really solve the problem as it really just masks it ever so slightly.

I apologise for not providing screen shots (which would obviously be a great help, I know), but I'm unable to get to my computer, and I'm hoping someone can offer some advice based on the information I provided.

I hope I've made some sense. 🧠

Thanks, in advance, guys.

Cheers.

If this is the same issue I'm having then not sure if I can help but at least your not on your own.

Do you have HDR enabled??? As this seems to make it worse.

I get what looks like small flashy sparkles most noticeable in dark scenes with the worst offenders the newer Resident Evils games (RE2, 3 & 7).

I've tried different cables, bypassing my AVR and going straight to the screen, various NVIDIA settings and drivers to no avail.

I don't have HDR, and I had considered a new Display cable, and all my drivers are up to date.

It's just horrendous at some points in certain games.

I feel ya buddy.

I've just learned to deal with it although it sounds as if my issue isn't as bad as yours as it only affects a small number of games with me.

Good luck

Good luck

I mean, it isn't every game...at least it's not as noticeable in some games.

Flight Simulator looked awful because of all the reflections, ditto Control.

Then again, stuff like Wolfenstein 2, Fortnite, Warzone, Grid, all look great.

It's just disappointing that certain titles are so bad.
