Cpu only running at 25%

Hi there everyone I'm new to this forum and new to folding I just set up an old PC that I had it's got a q9550 CPU graphic is not worth mentioning about but it is folding but only using about 25% is it possible to increase it somehow ? I can't seem to figure out how to get it to go full speed or even close to full speed ..

Where are you measuring that 25%? If you're looking at Task Manager, that is probably the utilization % not speed. If you're just idling with Task Manager open, 25% utilization is quite high and you might have some background apps running.

If you want to see that number go up: make your CPU work, run Cinebench or a game or something.

Edit: misread, you mean the protein folding app you're using is maxing out at 25%, derp my bad. Sounds like it could be 100% usage of 1 core, so yeah it's not working your whole CPU. Not an issue of speed or with your CPU, but the app isn't spinning up 4 threads (or might not pin those threads to each core properly).

Welcome!

Have you tried moved the "Folding Power" slider from "Light" or "Medium" to "Full?"

That will usually do the trick.

Yes the slider is on full and I have set it to use all 4 core's. Task manager is saying that I'm using average of 25% over all core's, if I run cinebench I can max out the cpu in task manager,   I guess it might be because I am using a very old platform asus p5q green 8gig ram q9550 cpu. Oh well at least it's doing something to help the community

Yay success sort of I set up my main computer which is an i5 3570s Ivy Bridge just to see if it would utilise the CPU better and it's running it 85% according to task manager so I think it must be a compatibility issue or it (folding at home program) just doesn't really like older hardware
