Hey there, i currently have a Corsair H60 cooling my i7-3820. I really want to overclock but unfortunately i am unable to do so because my temps go out of control! I want to put my CPU through intelburntest before i overclock but when i do so my CPU will jump to 85 degrees or higher in seconds. It does this while at a stock clock so it baffles me why it jumps so high, and if i don't stop the test it will continue to go higher and higher. Could this be a problem with the H60 or the cpu? All help is much appreciated!

As the post above said the H60 is an old cooler. Most higher end air coolers are better than it. Get yourself a H100i as an upgrade or a H220 if you can wait for them to be in stock. And yes it is worth it and you will be satisfied.

Many many variables with this kind of issue. It could be you not mounting the H60 properly and thus not giving it proper contact with the CPU so try remounting it. You could also try reapplying the thermal paste which is kind of simple. There could also be pump issues with the H60 itself. The last thing I can think of is that you might have a bad chip.

I personally would have gone with a H100 or any 240mm AIO Liquid Cooler :)

If you can fit a h110 get it instead more surface area and cooler. Its only $10 more

H110 has mounting compatibility issues. Plus the H220 performs better than it afaik.

I also have H60, however not on i7 but core 2 duo E8400. First time when I installed it i had also bad temp. to about 80 C (not stressed!). First I thought I made a bad choice buying it, but when i reinstalled and put a small amount of pasta again on the center (previously i made with my credit card a slim surface of pasta), temperatures dropped to about 66 C in stress with my OC to 3.6 GHz. Max temp. for this processor is 72.5 C. With this cooling I could probably make it to 3.8. Unfortunatelly I have old/unstable memory which doesn't want to overclock, so I'm stuck on 800 MHz CL5.

P.S.: sorry for my english errors :)

yeah, someone sold you on what liquid-cooling can do and didn't sell you the right equipment.

although a 4-core, they make some monster heat (as you now know). minimum would have

been the H80, but really the H100 would have been the better choice. depending on your

location, your wait might be some time, get the H100/i and get to overclocking..
