Need help picking a Power supply

Go to solution Solved by Ankerson,

Yes you do need a 650W PSU.

The Corsair TX650M out of that list.

I'm building a pc for video editing and gaming and I need help with picking a power supply for it. I'm not from US so most of the PSU units from the PSU tier list is not available over here. Their prices vary a lot too and most of what's sold here is either out of stock or ridiculous priced.

This is my build:

Ryzen 7 3700x (Stock Cooler)

Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16GB (LPX)

Gigabyte GTX 960 4G G1 (It's from my old rig, planning to upgrade to a 3070 / 3060ti)

NZXT H510 (with stock fans)

Kingston A400 240GB (Boot drive)

Seagate BarraCuda 3.5 inch 2TB

My options (converted to $$):

  • Corsair TX650M - $101
  • Silverstone ST65f-GS - $106
  • Silverstone VIVA650 Gold - $90
  • Silverstone ET650-G - $88
  • Silverstone ET505f - $78
  • Silverstone ET550-G - $72

  1. Do I really need 650W? (After the upgrade?)
  2. I pay my electricity bills so efficiency matters a lot too.
  3. Any other suggestions are welcome, I will try to see if they are available over here.

I don't recommend Vengeance LPX RAM's, they are using really bad chips in that RAM. It sometimes doesn't work when the X.M.P is on, get Crucial Ballistix instead. It is a really good RAM.

For PSU, I recommend XPG Core Reactor. It is a really good PSU. Epic ripple values and good voltage regulation.

Anecdotal. I have really good 3000mhz CL15 LPX's. I actually got them to be stable at 3400mhz with timings of 16-20-20-38 (16-18-18-36 was unstable). With RAM, any of them could be good or bad, it's really a luck of the draw.

1. They aren't from the US so availability could be an issue. They even say "...most of the PSU units from the PSU tier list is not available over here"

2. it's most likely out of their budget and way overpriced for what it is.

3. It's more likely for them to be able to get a Seasonic Focus since that is what the Core Reactor is, just rebranded and maybe a different fan profile.

I agree, I've a pair of CL16 3200mhz 8x2 sticks and they didn't have trouble running at the XMP profile it came with on my old Intel rig.

I couldn't find the XPG Core Reactor, but I found these:

  • Seasonic Core GM-650 - $83
  • Seasonic Focus Plus 550 SSR-550FX - price not listed.

Should I go with the Corsair TX650m (which was available in almost all the shops that I checked) or look for one of these?

I'd stick with the TXM, but that Core GM isn't so bad itself at that price. Personally would stick with the TXM since I like Corsairs customer service/RMA and never truly dealt with Seasonic service/RMAs.

TXM it is, it has a longer warranty period too. Thanks for your help!
