MSI B550-A Pro Stuck on BOOT-LED

Hello,

I have recently built a new pc and as the topic suggests, I am stuck on the Boot phase.

I get no visual on my monitor, tried both DisplayPort and HDMI cables on both the GPU and the Motherboard, but the case seems to be working fine?

This is my first time building so I will appreciate your help, I am sending a video and a picture of the case's interior during boot.

Thank you in advance.

try to use the bios flashback function to update your bios. it's likely that the board has an older bios, not compatible with the 5000 series.

you should find instructions in the motherboard manual on how to update bios without a cpu

I finished the update just now, installed the last version before beta but now the DRAM-LED is stuck in the Debug

I managed to clear the CMOS (I think)

I did the Jbat1 method (put a screw in between the 2 metals in Jbat section)

I also removed the battery itself and put it back after 10 seconds just to make sure.

The motherboard led still appears to be stuck on VGA-LED.

Help 😕

It is most likely not from PSU cables since all the fans and RGB units work correctly, what poor cable management from the case itself would lead to the motherboard not being able to recognize the GPU anyway ?

Well you can't use the video ports on the motherboard...because the Ryzen 5900X has no iGPU.

Only connect your monitors / displays for the GPU.

When you take the battery out to clear CMOS, the power supply MUST be also unplugged from the wall socket. Otherwise, the motherboard is still getting stand-by power from the power supply, keeping the CMOS going even with battery out.

EDIT:

I see you are also using the BOTTOM PCI-E X16 slot. Can you not use the top PCI-E X16 slot at all?

Bottom slot is PCI-E 3.0 X4 only, provided through the B550 chipset. The top slot is PCI-E 4.0 using 16 lanes directly from the Ryzen 5900X CPU.

You WANT to use the top slot, especially with a RTX 3090. *Might* also be why your RTX 3090 may be not working / getting detected properly.

Thank you for the reply, I will try try the things you recommend tomorrow. I tried to avoid the top slot because it felt too narrow especially for the airflow, and only turned off the PSU switch before attempting to clear CMOS.

I didn't get what you said about video ports though, I use both DisplayPort and HDMI for monitors, just tried them on different slots in-case my monitor responded to any of them while I was attempting to get it working.

Ahh...I see.

I thought your Noctua cooler was in the way, so you couldn't use the top PCI-E X16 slot or something.

The GPU cooler is on the bottom side of the card, so airflow wise, should not be a problem.

The HDMI / DisplayPort on the back of the motherboard won't function, because they are routed to the CPU.

non-APU Ryzen chips (e.g. like your Ryzen 5900X) has no iGPU on die, so those ports are blanks...basically.

To use the output ports on the motherboard you need a G-series Ryzen chip (e.g. Ryzen 3400G).
