Switching from Intel to AMD

Go to solution Solved by WhitetailAni,

Create a Windows bootable USB and reinstall from there.

Make sure to back up any data that you want to save on your boot drive.

I got my hands on a 5600x (Newegg drop. I'm still shocked I got it). So I'm going to upgrade my 4770k to the 5600x next week. My question is, is there anything I need to do to ensure the switch is done right? Or is it plug and play?

I'm switching everything but the GPU, PSU, and storage. I want to clean out my drives of any programs I don't need. Essentially a clean OS install. Any recommendations? Or advice on how to best do this?

When I take apart my intel build, do I simply throw on the amd parts and turn everything on? Or is there something I need to do to make sure the OS recognizes the new mobo/cpu? I know. Probably stupid question, but I've never upgraded before. Built my 4770k tower in '14 and only did a fresh OS install once a few years ago.

What motherboard are you going with? You'll more than likely have to update BIOS. I'd try to make sure you have QFlashPlus, Flashback, what ever your chosen brand calls it.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

MSI B550 A Pro, I cheaped out and went for affordability, worried if it will handle a 5950x if I ever decide to upgrade.

Just keep an eye on page 22 of the manual for the correct USB port, set the USB stick up before tear down of the Intel, and follow this video.
