Hey guys, I'm getting the senheiser hd 558s but I recently came across the Sennheiser PC series and I frequently use skype while gaming so I'm thinking of buying it, but I have a question. Is it basically a HD 500 series headphone with a mic built on it? Or is it another headphones completely? Also are the mics good or is getting a modmic better?

There gaming headsets are based on their headphone lineup so you are better off keeping your headphones and getting a separate mic - either a proper mic or a modmic would be great options - seems a waste of money buying a second set of headphones when yours are perfectly good

A few people have told me that PC360's are very similar to HD 558s in terms of audio quality, but with a mic.... That said I have NO IDEA if that is true or not.

This is true. But the reason people still recommend the HD558 over the PC360 is that if you are outside the US the PC360 tends to be horribly overpriced.

In the US however it's a +/- 40 dollar difference (between the HD558 and the PC360), so paying that for the mic and convenience is actually fair enough.

Slightly lesser build quality for the PC360 though, from what I've heard.

No, I think you misinterpreted what I wrote, I said that I am getting the 558s but I have not confirmed if I am getting it and I was considering the PC series.

Ah I didn't realize that outside of the U.S. it was more, gotcha.

Build quality is plastic but not cheap plastic, it FEELS solid.

I went with it just because if I went for this and a modmic I wouldn't be able to rest until i sleeved it... Which I do NOT have time for atm.

No regrets, really solid mic, music sounds great.

I'll just say that I have PC360s and absolutely love them. Less than zero regrets. Although if they are more expencive than HD558 + mic where you are... Probably go with the HD558

Oh sorry i thought you already owned them ><, in that case, do you want headphones you can wear around the house/outside? if so get the 558s and a mic, if you want headphones ONLY for computer use get the headset

then you can just unplug from your pc and wear your 558s on the bus or whatever - as i say, if you dont want to use them as "regular" headphones then get the headset, the mics are pretty decent

The 558s are open, I don't think its a good idea to use them outside. I might use the headphones with my ipad or phone but most of the time it will be with my computer.

Then i would get the headset, I currently use closed sennheiser headphones (momentum) when gaming but I like to wear them around the house and take them on holiday etc
