I have a acer aspire 6935 running windows vista. when I connect to a network via WiFi it gets stuck on the identifying stage. When I set a static IP address the problem does not occur. The router is assigning IP addresses to all other computers correctly  i have re-installed the  driver for the wireless card and the problem is still there.

If anyone has any ides how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

I'll stick with static as long as it works, i mean you only have to do it once, but like levent said it may also be the DHCP pool, just double check your router see what's going on there, make sure DHCP is working fine

But I got this same problem too with my laptop, couldn't find out what was wrong so i stuck with the static IP lol, for me it was the laptop something was wrong with it, cause every other client machine just got the DHCP no problem

Disable IPv6 on the network card. There was a  bug a few years back what caused issues like this.

after that do this,

set nic to DHCP,

run as admin cmd,

type,

ipconfig /release,

ipconfig /renew,

ipconfig /flushdns

then post result.

"There's no test like production!"
