Hi buddy,

Is the HP a laptop?

If it is, I wouldn't bother since upgrading mobile parts can be a real faff.

If you must, then just confirm the socket type and get yourself on eBay or AliExpress. I did a quick check and it looks like the Turion CPUs were AMD socket 754. These CPUs are old so they'll be hard to come by and probably relatively expensive.

If you haven't already done so, the best way of breathing new life into an old PC or laptop is to swap what is more than likely a regular mechanical hard disk with an SSD. 120GB is plenty for a Windows 10 install plus local apps of Office 365 and still leave you with 80Gig for your files.

Upgrading the Ram to its max installable amount of 8 or 16GB is also another good option.

And lastly, you might want to try ditching Windows for Linux. Mint or Ubuntu make for a fairly painless transition from the familiar Windows environment and can do pretty much anything you want it to as long as you have a bit of time and patients to learn a new system but Linux runs on anything and very quickly.

Good luck

I believe the AMD Turion 64 X2 is Socket 1.

Yes its an HP laptop, I was planning to do an ssd swap as well as add more ram to it, just wanted to see if they laptop would support other processor upgrades. I came on here to see if anyone would have some type of knowledge on this computer and know of any processor upgrades, seeing as I cannot find any online, still id nothing comes of this (knowledge wise) I guess I can trial and error.

Cheers,

Apologies, yes, your right. Must have been reading the wrong section of Wiki

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Turion_microprocessors#Turion_64_X2

Looking at this other page:

http://www.computer-specifications.com/specifications/HewlettPackard-Paviliondv71428caEntertainmentNotebook-Specs.html

The cpu sku is X2 RM-74 which is dual core @ 2.2Ghz 'Lion'. Assuming that other CPUs of the generation and socket type are compatible then your upgrade roadmap looks fairly bleak with the Ultra ZM-88 @ 2.5Ghz a possible option but it will only give you a small boost.

The SSD option followed by a ram upgrade would be my main suggestion.

Also what version of Windows are you using? If you haven't upgraded to 10 then I would recommend you do that. From my experience it runs far better on older hardware than 7 / 8 / 8.1

Cheers
