MULTIPLE HDMI SWITCHES??

Hi,

 

I currently have 2 monitors and 1 tablet to use in my PC.

 

I need to use different configurations depending on the work I have to do:

  • Connect monitor 1 and monitor 2.
  • Connect drawing tablet and monitor 1.
  • Connect drawing tablet and monitor 2.

Currently, I just plug and unplug the HDMI cables to get the configuration I need, but I was wondering if it's possible to make this easier.

 

I've been looking around and I was planning to connect some HDMI switches in sequence, in order to get the different configurations by combinations of the switches positions (hopefully attached diagram helps). Would that work? Am I overthinking the problem and there is an easier solution already invented? I've read about KVM switches, but that's for 2 computers so I'm not sure if it applies to my case.

Do you have enough ports to have all three connected to the GPU and just enable/disable them through Windows (perhaps using DisplayFusion or something similar to have monitor profiles for quick switching)?

You could grab a DisplayLink USB to HDMI adapter (good enough for 1080p) and use that for the third output, then do what I said before. At minimum, it'll be cheaper than four HDMI switches.

And connect the third monitor to an usb port in the computer?
 

I currently have an hdmi port in my mobo that I’m not using because it doesn’t work when connecting a monitor (I thought once my gpu is installed the video input would be set by default as coming from the gpu), is using an usb from the mobo similar to use the hdmi of the mobo?

No, the USB device (specifically, it's 3.0, because that matters) creates a low-performance display device that offloads some of the work onto the other GPU and CPU.
