so i'm playing genshin impact with my 15" 2017 macbook pro, it has a 7th gen core i7 and a Radeon pro 555 2gb graphics, i'm playing it in 1050p resolution,

i wonder why is my cpu underperforming while in gameplay but not in settings, i read that the core i7 should have 2.8ghz speed but it's running only in 1.4ghz

you can see the tempratures it's not really throttling, i've check my "processor power management" and it's on 100%

i didn't overclock it at all

you can see while i'm not in settings it only runs at 1.4ghz

but when i go to the settings it came back to 3.5ghz

i'm asking this because its dropping frames from a constant 50fps to about 20fps and it won't came back

if you have any tips or fixes it would be great!

sorry for bad english, and thank you

Your CPU is at 66% usage at 1.4 Ghz - this means the game IS NOT using the cpu a lot.  So, the CPU reduces its frequencies in order to save power and produce less heat, which means it's possible to increase the video card's frequency a bit and give it a higher power budget, to produce more fps.

I don't know how the laptop is built inside, but it wouldn't surprise me if both cpu and video card share a heatsink and fan, so the less heat the cpu produces the more heat the video card can produce (therefore produce more fps)

I'd suggest going into your graphics options and tweak some things there, like anisotropic filtering, anti aliasing, shadows, other things.

You didn't post a screenshot of the graphics settings. Maybe post a picture of those settings and we could try to suggest tweaks to that to get higher fps.

Also, does the cpu have integrated graphics?  You may be playing on integrated intel graphics card instead of Radeon ... set the game in window mode if possible, and see which video card is used (if you have two)

i know this kinda weird, before i face this problem, the CPU is at 3.5ghz even while gameplay and the fps is stable at 42 - 39,

i know this game is GPU intense, but like i said before this happened it performs better.

I played this at 1050p, Low-to-Medium settings, maybe i'll lower it down.

In the Graphics settings i use the "high performance" with radeon pro 555 so i think its no problem

for the medium settings, when the cpu runs at 3.4/3.5ghz 45-39fps (but when in 1.4ghz, 31- even 15fps)

for the low settings and the cpu runs at 3.4ghz constant 60fps (in 1.4ghz, 46-29fps)

[correction : in the medium setting the  SFX quality should be medium]

as you can see when (sometimes) the cpu runs at 3.5ghz, the gameplay is at 60fps
