So I'm preparing to build my first but today a found out that I might need to change the psu I bought because apparently my graphics card manufacturer recommends a 550 w psu and I bought a 450 w one.

do I really need to change it ?

Cpu is a core i5 1040 and gpu is rx5600 xt

Sorry for the broken english

It should be enough. If it doesn’t run, nothing is broken, just return the psu and get a higher wattage.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

I agree with helpfultechwizard. Nothing will blow up, if your PSU can't handle the load, it will shut down.

Biggest question is how many watts can the PSU supply on the 12v rail?

So I've checked in corsair website and its 432 watts

Look pal, if the manufacturer recommends a wattage higher than the power supply you have or plan on getting, then its better to be safe and do what the manufacturer tells you to do and call it a day. They are recommending the wattage for a specific reason, and its not for basic activities like web surfing or Adobe Acrobat, or Microsoft Office. If you are planning on doing more than that, then just get a 550 Watt power supply, or even more than that to provide more cushion and to future proof it.

Nope. This generations is the first one where this is true for a last gen gpu, a bit under should be fine.

"if it doesn't work out, just replace it with a PSU with more wattage" sounds like terrible advice to me. Replacing components is no walk in the park, especially a power supply. Its a fuck ton of wires you gotta deal with, its aggravating and it takes time out of your day you could be spending on other things. I'd never take this advice seriously, but that's up to the O.P.

I agree.
Especially if the GPU asks for lets say 550 watts and the PSU tries to deliver that, while also delivering another 100 watts to the rest of the computer.

You can't always expect safety systems to safe the day. They can fail and Corsair can reject the RMA because your GPU is out of spec.

It's not a race to the bottom.

🤔Right, never thought of that rma and their right to reject it because you didn't do what they clearly told you to do. All the more reason to not be cheap with it.
