So, I was under the impression that the faster the clock speed for memory, the “better” or faster it performed and therefore the more it would cost.  Now, I know that memory timings also play a big part in the prices of memory, not to mention supply and demand.

Anyways, I was perplexed to see two listings of Crucial Ballistix 16GB (2x 8GB): one was 3200MHz and the other 2400MHz,  both CL16, and the 2400MHz sticks were $20 more expensive than the 3200MHz.

So, my question is: without the obvious supply and demand factors making one more expensive, why is the slower memory more expensive?  Am I missing something?

Thanks!

There's probably more competition in the 3200mhz space, so they price to be competitive.

2400mhz isn't that popular of a speed, so since they don't see many sales, they likely just don't bother changing it's price.

Ah, so it's pretty much a supply and demand anomaly, and my very basic understanding of memory features remains unblemished?  Fantastic.

Also, thanks!

yeah, could be that there is less demand? or that they will go at sale at some point to get them away and replaced with higher versions.

Just don't bother trying to market them, but then just put them at a deep discount to get them away when unwanted or in any pre-builds maybe? not sure.

also when ram might be in the lower end or higher end, so if it's stuck inbetween it's in a weird place? Think this happen a bit often with certain products in the tech world?

Not really less demand, if anything more demand. Very few people are buying 2400mhz RAM kits, most people are going for 3200mhz or higher.
