So I found this internet providor in my area, who offers wireless fiber ie. you get fiber through an antenna, which is not satellite, since the antenna connects to the CO directly, if that makes any sense. Anyway I was wondering how well this would work, the company gets great reviews. Also I was wondering if 6mbs fiber would be the same as 6mbs cable, because the speeds options are kind of slow.

Dude fiber can't be wireless. Fiber is a fiber cable, which is transmitted via light.

So pretty much satellite internet.

Through a wired connection it'll be more stable and have a more consistent speed / ping

They get the fiber and beam it to an antenna on your roof, at which point you connect a router with eithernet

So it's not a 'direct' fibre connection. A wired connection would be MUCH more stable.

IT'S NOT SATELLITE because the signal is direct and not very far away. Also the guy said my ping should be 3-4ms because it is fiber.

They are lying big time here, it is probably something like WiMax. I've tested WiMax here and it is just terrible! Very inconsistent and definitely not a low ping!

For satellite internet it doesn't have to be a device in space it's more a term for receiving internet wirelessly, and while the ping from the ISP to the antenna will be low you will still have a more variable ping than cable but it may or may not be higher I can't personally comment on that.

@JK Vengeance so a comcast cable would be better?

Wired > Wireless internet where possible.

Wireless internet is not good at all, and those pings you were promised, no way. Not a chance in hell.

It's not sat internet. But it is wireless internet. i use to work for a company that did support for wireless internet providers, i would highly recommend against it. Generally the antenna needs direct Line Of Sight with their tower and can be interfered by a number of factors, such as trees, weather, and etc.

Also, you and everyone else in the area that has that connection would be sharing the connection (whatever it may be) that the tower has. Fiber is not wireless, and that company shouldn't be calling it fiber over the air or whatever they're calling it.

So why are the reviews so good? Also the tower is on top of a chain of hills looming over me...

The company i use to work for did support for about 30-40 wireless internet providers. I wouldn't go with any of them myself, because i am partial to a good wired connection, but there are MAYBE 1-2 of those providers i would recommend to friends.

So i guess what i am trying to say is that SOME can be pretty good, but they're rare in my experience.

They have pretty high prices it seems.

I really hope that's not how they are marketing it. You can't beam 'fibre'. That makes literally no sense. I get that running the 'last mile' of fibre optic cables to properties is a logistical nightmare, and alternatives might be better than DSL in the mean time. But really every country / government just needs to accept that it's a job that will have to be done... eventually.
