Hi people. I bought a used gigabyte ga z170n wifi mobo and it keeps overheating at idle. If I leave it on it will show a BSOD. I have reapplied the thermal paste four times with the same results. I'm running a 6700k that's being cooled with a h60. I know the chip and cooler are fine. I just pulled them off a h170 wifi. Any suggestions what to try next? I'm pretty new to this. Thanks

How do you know heat is the root cause?

I just reapplied pate fired it up then got this "boot and select proper boot device". Could the temps be caused if I did not reinstall windows to a clean ssd? I just moved the old drive to the new board. I read that if the motherboards are similar enough you can swap then and windows will install the needed drivers.

Is it normal for cpu temps to raise in bios. It got up to 60 with the fan at 1800 rpm in bios. It was still climbing when I shut it off

No, that is not normal unless your CPU cooler isn't working.

. I hear a lot of sloshing when I shake it. Might it just need to be topped off?

Most AIOs that I know of are sealed. But if the pump isn't working right, the water can't do its job. Never buy a used AIO.
