Zoom insane memory usage

I am using my late 2013 15" MacBook Pro with a 2ghz Quad-core i7 and Intel iris pro graphics. It has 8gb of memory and is still on Catalina 10.15.7. I was just on a zoom call and the memory usage went through the roof. Activity monitor had usage at 55gb of memory. This caused the zoom client to crash but the people on the call could still hear me. The weirdest thing was that even though zoom was using 55gb the overall system memory settings said only 7gb was in use with 1.12gb of swap used. I have no idea why but yeah, anyone else have this problem.
