My First Build, Thoughts?

Go to solution Solved by Dmon,

Here is a benchmark against the two Im not buying from australia and I plan to be able to save up and replace the cards later

As a general rule of thumb I'd say always buy the single best card you can afford, rather then two cheaper cards that give slightly better performance. You won't have to deal with the problems that accompany sli/crossfire such as no/bad driver support, stuttering, more heat and more power consumption.

Just my two cents, if you're getting the 760's super cheap from overseas then I'd understand.

Hey Everyone,

I am planning a build, my first build, and I would like some feedback on my choices...

It is mainly gaming, that is why I have two cards in sli vs the one single fastest gpu. (sli 760s beat out the titan and 780ti in most games anyway)

I am using nvidia for shadowplay and also because AMD cards are currently at a ridiculous price

I will list the components below

ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+ AMD 990FX ATX

2x GIGABYTE GTX 760 windforce OC (SLI)

Rosewill Hive 750w psu

AMD FX-6350

G.SKILL Sniper 8gb (2x4gb)

WD Caviar Blue 1TB (SSDs are too expensive for me right now, but I plan to put one in later)

Corsair H100 closed loop water cooler

All of the above are being bought from newegg

I am buying a monitor from a local shop, as I live in Australia, but prices are too much here...

My case is the corsair 200r, which I am buying from PCCaseGear

Please Give some feedback as it is my first build and I am new to PC

Thanks,

Stryke

Get an FX-6300 and put the money saved towards a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO so you can overclock it, and basically get the same performance. Maybe try and get a better motherboard (look into ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI).

What is your budget?

Get a single 760 or 770 EVGA ACX

Get cheaper RAM (im pretty sure that stuff is kinda expensive and more than 1600mhz?)

Get an 8320 or 4670K

Get a smaller PSU (600W)

Get a 212 Evo

Get an SSD and a Seagate Barracuda

Get a UD3H if your budget allows

I'd grab a R9 290 (non X) rather then the dual 760's the price/performance in Australia falls to AMD 90% of the time.

Why sli? There's no point getting such an expensive cpu cooler when what you're doing is gaming.

Budget? Ssd's aren't that expensive relative to other regions for Australia..

Budget is about $1200 to spend on newegg...

I need to buy the case in aus because it is heavy, therefore I cant ship it very far...

If you are wondering im buying it from newegg and shipping it with hopshopgo.

In regards to getting a single card, I want performance, and as I said before, they outperform most other single cards...

benchmark:http://www.ocaholic.ch/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=1160

the ram is $80 for 2100mhz

Im buying the liquid cooler because its a refurb and they are on sale for $62 under RRP on newegg (about $47)

I am buying internationally because markups and price gouging runs rampant in Australia

Also I refuse to buy seagate due to bad customer experience

Thanks,

Stryke

The 760s are about $250 USD each and the 290 is about $500

My only issue is no shadowplay, because ideally I would like to have the ability to record
